...New Year... Reflections...

Dear NWE Readers,

It's 1:44pm on New Year's Day and I've glided into it with mixed feelings. And it's not just reflections about 2004 but also of memories of previous years. Especially with the Tsunami disaster, it doesn't feel right to have this huge festive celebration. Life goes on of course, but one can't feel too free with so many people going through so much terrible shit. I hope that something like this can have an awakening effect on people who choose to continue the killing around the world. Natural disasters are enough, we don't need generals in uniforms or businessmen in white mansions to add to the death toll. Maybe, just MAYBE, some will share this feeling and do their bit to stop it.

On a personal note, I feel this year needs to be a year of some sort of action. In a musical sense, and starting something positive and clear in an activist sense. And if there isn't something close enough to what I think is positive and real then we might have to start something up ourselves. I'm hoping this blog might be useful in getting some of you together, with like-minded attitude and purpose, to build the foundations of a forward-looking train of positive change. Maybe starting a community online or the old-fashioned idea of a zine that can be distributed out in the community. Either way, something has got to be kick-started. I'm hoping it's a year of excitement for the band, with the demo being distributed to pubs, clubs, bars, radio... fuck I just want to play live, get to that same fired up feeling we had at the beginning of the year before the quietness set in. Whatever happens, it will be a big year of music, I've been getting some recordings done on my new PC and it's the kind of thing that is really starting to get my rock rolling. Besides Eon, I've got a couple of jam sessions lined up with an old uni mate (Chops, can't wait to jam on Monday dude!) who is an extremely talented bastard (kickarse drummer, piano, Mellencamp vocals lol ;)). Then there is the Lebanese Conspiracy which could provide some chillout music for this summer, Marwan has just bought this cool MIDI keyboard thing that has some good clear guitar input for noiseless recording. And on top of all that I'm hoping to get some singing lessons to start me off. I "think" I have the potential to sing and "feel" it, so hopefully that comes good in 2005. For all those who like brooding singers, stay tuned! ;) And there will be a new PEARL JAM album... it's always a good year when Pearl Jam rock the world hehe.

So this is January 2005. I hope you all have a year that is full of good vibes, peace, love, mungbeans and some fantastic moments that make this year something to cherish.
To those of you travelling overseas (i.e. my cousin Dalal!), be safe and have a ball, meet people and show them that some Australians are still sane and don't vote for a fucking regressive government (oo, 2005 promises to be even more political at NWE than 2004 haha).
To my band and my other musical freaks, hope this year we really take the music somewhere bigger than each previous year and wish for our friends and family to enjoy the ride with us (i.e. come to the gigs! lol)

To everyone... hope we can all add some peace, love and respect to each others lives and keep on spreading it 'round!

Rock on,
Dan.
