There's this show on MTV.. another one of those "Reality" shows.... they are getting these teens or 20-somethings to talk about the Iraq war (filmed around March 15 last year). It's amazing what people will believe and how easily we trust. This one girl started spouting off about how Saddam Hussein would start a war anyday now (back 2003, that's laughable) and considering her family lived in New York City "it's a huge target". It's fucked up what governments do to manufacture consent and belief that what they're doing is right. My first feeling was to get angry at some of these kids, but I've heard it's difficult over there to distinguish between what's a lie and what's truth. Either way, there needs to be some responsibility by citizens too. It's our responsibility to make sure our names are not used in vain. Our governments must be held responsible (and WE must learn to hold them responsible) for what they do or else it'll just keep happening.
What is "it"? It is killing. It is intolerant acts. It is corporate greed (and yes they are tied together). The world is not a crap place sometimes because "that's how we humans are". Don't generalise with such stupid statements. There are morals and principles that override all religion and all beliefs. Tolerance & Care. That's what it comes down to. Those principles AT LEAST must be upheld if we are to get anywhere as a race and to survive. It means caring for each other and caring for the earth that supplies us with the food and air we need to survive. Our land won't be replenished from the heavens, we have to look after it.
This is basic isn't it? It doesn't require a degree in medicine to figure out. Do your part. Strive to kick out any ignorance.
Phew, that came out of nowhere ;-)
